The device is rumored to launch in 2026.
As an iPhone user, I’ve been watching foldable Android phones with curiosity for years, and it finally looks like Apple is preparing to enter the game. While next month’s 2025 iPhone event is expected to bring some interesting updates, all eyes are already on 2026, when Apple is rumored to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone as part of a larger three-year redesign strategy.
According to Bloomberg, the foldable model could even reintroduce a classic feature: Touch ID. The return of fingerprint recognition would be a surprise move, considering Apple has relied solely on Face ID in recent years. Still, it wouldn’t be the first time Apple revisited a retired feature — MagSafe charging made a comeback with the iPhone 12 after originally debuting on MacBooks.
On the technical side, Apple is said to have shifted from on-cell to in-cell touch sensors. In-cell integrates the sensors directly into the display, allowing for a thinner, more seamless design — especially important for foldables, where screen creases can stand out. Early rumors also point to a four-camera system and color options including white, black, light blue, and light gold.
While the foldable iPhone is still a year away, this year’s launch should still bring new additions. One highlight may be an ultra-thin model called the iPhone Air, expected to feature a single camera and Apple’s new A19 chip.
If the rumors hold true, 2026 could mark one of the most significant shifts in Apple’s iPhone lineup in years.
